FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY AT RISTORANTE NAJ
My husband and I don’t really celebrate Valentine’s day. It’s not because we are not romantic it’s just because our wedding anniversary is so close to Valentine’s day that it kind of feels redundant. Since it’s February 14th, I thought I would share our romantic dinner pictures to get you all inspired for V-day. When I say ‘romantic dinner pictures’ I mean sexy pictures of Innovative Italian Cuisine.
Believe it or not, in my small little town in the hills of Oltrepò Pavese, we have a classy and elegant restaurant set in a restored villa called Ristorante Naj (pronounced ‘N-EYE’). It’s kind of the odd man out in the midst of all the osterie, trattorie, pizzerie, agristurismi where you can get a lot of good, local food for quite cheap. At Naj, the food is innovative, smaller portioned and more expensive. It also has a bar next door with some creative mixologists.
MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THE NEW KID ON THE BLOCK
It’s getting mixed reviews from the locals here. We are used to going out to agriturismos and eating 7 dishes of antipasto, a huge portion (for European standards) of pasta or risotto, having to skip the second course, barely finishing the panna cotta dessert, digesting for another 2 hours around the table and then rolling out of restaurant to collapse on the couch at home. All that for 40 Euros. Wine included.
When Naj came strolling into the neighbourhood, some locals really loved it because it was new and different. Others were turned off by the price and relatively smaller portions.
WHAT I THINK OF NAJ
Personally, I really appreciated the portions and the innovative dishes. I could finally eat an amuse bouche, appetizer, 1st course, 2nd course and dessert without having a food coma after. My husband and I paid 45 Euros/person, wine NOT included. The staff was very friendly and the chef also came out a few times to ask if we were enjoying the dishes. Honestly, Naj is like having a sought-after Milanese restaurant close to home.
So enough about my review of Ristorante Naj. Take a look at the pictures of the dishes we enjoyed. Would you come to eat here? What dish would you try?
