My mom always has baked goods ready to serve at her house. She either has brownies, cookies, banana bread, cake, cream puffs or almond biscotti ready for expected and unexpected guests. You’d think that I would be eating her sweets everyday but the truth is that I never ate them unless guests were over. I guess the fact that they were always available made them less desirable. (Oh, doesn’t that make a great relationship metaphor?)
When I moved out of my mom’s house I started to miss her baking. So, I tried my hand at baking and I actually enjoy it especially when there is a creative aspect to it like setting fondant on a cake or decorating cookies. I have no problem baking some great tasting cookies but I do have a problem getting them to have a certain look to them: The Crinkle.
I can never get my cookies to get that crinkle. I looked up crinkle cookie recipes but I don’t know if it’s my oven or type of ingredient that I use that keeps me from getting my crinkles!
Finally, I discovered Joy the Baker and her beautiful website. Not only does she have a visually yummy website with loads of recipes for everyone from cake lovers to vegans but she has a double chocolate chip cookie recipe that gave me my long-awaited crinkles! Recipes aside, check out her website just to see her pictures.
These are how my cookies turned out and here is where you can find that recipe by Joy the Baker.
